CANCELLED - Ottawa Voyageurs d'Ottawa - Saturday Club 37th Anniversary Event Walk

We will be repeat the Anniversary walk at the same location (We will be starting at Centre de plein air du Lac-Leamy, 100 Atawe, Gatineau) but with a different registration time of 9:30 am to avoid traffic and start the walk at 10:00 am.

The restaurant is closed on Tuesday so we ask you to bring a lunch, chair and drink and we will provide the cake.

Meet: at the round table inside the Centre de plein air du Lac-Leamy
Registration: 11 km - 9:00-9:30 am / 6 km – 9:45-10:15 am.
Parking: Free parking at Lac Leamy Stationnement North-West. Park on the right-hand side of the parking lot. Take the paved path through the trees to the start point. If you arrive at the Saint-Éloi Restaurant, go down the stairs. The Centre de plein air is underneath the restaurant.
Route: 6 & 11 km routes
Cost: $1 OVO Members; $2 Non-members; Children 16 and under, no charge
Washrooms / Water: Inside the Centre de plein air du Lac-Leamy, at Lac-Leamy Beach and on the 10K route at La Maison de Tourisme / or the Canadian History Museum.

Safety: Outfit yourself for safe winter walking! Weather dependent

• Wear shoes or boots that provide traction on snow and ice. Footwear with flat soles
• made of rubber and neoprene composite provide better traction than plastic and leather soles. Ensure boots can be done up properly to provide foot stability. Ice grippers on footwear can help you walk on hard packed snow and ice. But be careful! Grippers become dangerously slippery and must be removed before walking on smooth surfaces like stone or tile.
• Use a cane, a pair of ski poles or walking sticks to help with balance

Start Point: Jack Purcell Community Centre, 320 Jack Purcell Lane, Ottawa (off Elgin St)
Registration: 9:30-9:55 am. Group walks begin at 10:00. Meet inside the Jack Purcell Community Centre.
Routes: km route, 7 Km route and 10 km
Cost: $1 for OVO members, $2 for non-members, children 12 and under walk for free
Washrooms: Available at the start point, Ottawa City Hall, National Arts Centre, and Lansdowne Park (10K)
Parking: We have been offered FREE parking in the parking spaces along Jack Purcell Lane which are signed as “Reserved for clients of the Jack Purcell Community Centre”. Park your car; obtain a parking pass at the customer service desk; return to your car to put the parking pass on the dash. After the walk, return the parking pass to the customer service desk.
Metered Parking – if there is a parking meter, you will need to pay.

NEW Start Point: Watson's Mill, 5525 Dickinson St, Manotick (unfortunately, not open this weekend, washrooms not available)
Route: Ontario Director PT 054, 5-7-10 km routes
Cost: $2.00
Parking: Lots of spaces available in front of Watson's Mill
Washrooms: Tim Hortons, 989 River Rd, Manotick (3 min drive (1.2 km) from start point) or Creekside Bar & Grill, 5511 Manotick Main St (2 min drive, 400 metres from start point). There are also washrooms along the route on Manotick Main St and on Mill St as well as at the halfway point of the 7 & 10 km routes.
Social Options: Breakfast - Millers Oven, 1137 Mill St; OR Creekside Bar & Grill, 5511 Manotick Main St. Coffee & Pastry - Take Another Bite, 1135 Mill St
Note: The 7 & 10 km trail along the river may be damp or wet. You may wish to wear waterproof footwear.

Cleaning Up the Capital

Date: Sunday, 21 April, 2014
Location: Esso Svc Stn, 6481 Jeanne d'Arc Blvd,
Start Time: 8:45 am for a 9:0 am start
Route: Volunteers will break into two groups with a group walking on each sides of Jeanne d’Arc Blvd picking up litter all the way to the corner of Fortune Blvd / Jeanne d’Arc Blvd / Vineyard. For the return to the Esso gas station groups will switch sides and check for litter all the way back.
Social: Volunteers will decide where they want go for brunch/lunch. One lucky volunteer will be reimbursed for their luch by the club. So save your receipt.

Ottawa Voyageurs Tuesday Trails - Repeat of Charity Walk for Clothspin

Join the Ottawa Voyageurs on a REPEAT of their Charity Walk. All cash donations received at this walk will be given to Épingle à Linge/Clothespin, an organization which supports refugees and needy families in Ottawa. Donations of $20 or more will receive an income tax receipt.

Please note that Épingle à Linge/Clothespin will also accept household goods (except food and large furniture) to provide basic home necessities to their clients. Clothing for children ages 3-16 is also needed at this time. Michelle will take any donations of money, clothing or household items to Épingle à Linge/Clothespin after the walk registration.

Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club Tulip Festival Walks

Dates:May 18-20, 2024
The Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club annually holds three days of walks in
Ottawa so that everyone can enjoy the multiple tulip beds and the lovely
weather.
Cost All of our walks are events so the cost is $2.00 Cdn per walker. Please
try to have the correct change in Canadian currency if coming from outside of
Canada.

If you are travelling from the States or Europe

We recommend that you have travel insurance. The Canadian Volkssport Federation that we operate under, requires us to have all walkers sign a waiver of liability which we are asking you to do as you register for the walks. Historically, weather in mid May in Ottawa can be very hot and humid so bring a water bottle or two, especially if doing the 10 km walks, that can be filled up at Carleton University and at the Lord Elgin
Hotel. Or it can be rainy and cool, so bring appropriate rain wear. Port -a -potties
can be found at Dow’s Lake and Landsdowne Park. Check the weather forecast
before you come to bring the right clothes.

What to do after your walks or in the evenings ?

Your hotels will have a variety of pamphlets with suggestions such as visiting
Parliament Hill, joining a Hop on, Hop off bus tour, go on one of 3 different
Haunted walk tours or visiting all museums, the National Art Gallery, the Byward
Market, The Rideau Shopping Centre, and many restaurants along Elgin Street.
Transportation to the sites.

For those staying downtown, you can walk to the Lord Elgin Hotel from
your hotel. Check with OC Transpo for routes to Carleton University. Those with cell phones can download and app for the OC Transpo bus/train system called Transit from the the Iphone App store or the Android Apps.

Group Walks will be in groups with the 10 km walkers beginning at 8:45 am and then every 15 minutes until 9:15 am. We will have one bilingual leader for one 5 km
and one 10 km route.
Registration for 5 km Walkers: 5 km walkers are asked to arrive at 9:25 am and not before as their begins at 9:30 am.
Group Walks: the 5 km walkers will begin walking at 9:45 am
and every 15 minutes until 10:15 am.

OVO Event - Discover Far-Eastern Ontario: Alexandria, CVF 10702

The Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club invites you to Discover Alexandria.
It is recommended you wear long pants and use insect repellent as part of the route (1.5-2 km) is through the woods.

Saturday is the only day we will meet here as a group. It will NOT be repeated on the following Tuesday due to the driving distance. Please save the date so you can participate in this unique event. You may, of course, walk the event on your own at another time in the week

Ottawa Voyageurs d’Ottawa (OVO) Tuesday Trails - Event 10699 Repeat

Join us for a repeat walk in Ottawa’s peaceful Heron Park and Riverside Park communities and along the Brookfield and Sawmill Creek Pathways. This event is offered by the Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club. There will be options to walk either a 6 km, 7 km or a 10 km route.

Washrooms: available near the start point. All routes pass a well-maintained portable toilet within 300 metres of the start point where we will stop, then again on the 6 & 7 km return route. On the 10 km route there is a washroom at the beginning then at the 8.5 km point at Second Cup. There is a Tim Hortons on Bank St at Heron Rd. We do not walk past this but it is easy to stop there before or after your walk. Overflow Brewing will be open at 11:45 am.

Join us for a morning walk in the lovely rural community of Greely throughout a variety of neighbourhoods, pathways and parks. There will be an option to walk either a 5 or 10 km route. Bring a lunch and a chair to join your fellow walkers in the shade behind the Greely library. Those wishing to buy a lunch can do so by driving east on Parkway Rd. and crossing Bank St. to the plaza. You’ll find a Foodland, A&W, Pizza Hut and a burrito place to buy your lunch.

Ontario Director Walk in Manotick

Join us for a walk on Monday (Civic Holiday) in MANOTICK, Ojibway for "Island in the River". Located on the Rideau River, just a few kilometres east of Highway 416, Manotick offers significant points of interest including the Dickinson Square Conservation Area which hosts Watson's Mill (a 19th century grist mill) and Dickinson House. Watson’s Mill and Dickinson House are open at 10:00 am Monday if you are interested. Free Admission.

Routes: 5K/6K & 10K routes available. All routes go through Strathcona Park, along the Rideau River pathway and through the Sandy Hill neighbourhood. The 10K route takes you through uOttawa and its heritage buildings.
Parking: Parking available in either RSC parking lot as well as the public angle parking beside the sports dome.
Cost: $1.00 / $2.00 if you aren’t an Ottawa Voyageurs club member / Free for children under 12

OVO Fall Foliage Walk CVF 16063

Join the Ottawa Voyageurs on their Fall Foliage Walk this coming Sat on trails 50 and 51 in Mer Bleue. Although we are at the end of Sep, the bugs could still be around so suggest you bring some spray. There is no rain in the forecast so the trails should be good for walking, however there is one small decline on the 5km and 7km so for anyone doing these routes, walking sticks might be a help.
